A Taste for Champagne and Endless Fortune (1/?)
Title: A Taste for Champagne and Endless Fortune
Author: gf_futurism
Pairing: Belldom
Summary: Valentine's Day Fic Exchange Prompt: Celebrity AU. Both are either a model, musician or an actor, you choose! They're both sort of fans of each other, interact on Twitter or social media, a bit of flirting, but they've never actually met. They end up getting paired up as the host/musical guest of SNL on Valentine's Day weekend, which will include maybe some interaction during the monologue or a skit. Sparks fly during their week of rehearsals and the show (and maybe even the afterparty)!
Rating: NC-17
Feedback: Would be appreciated c:
Disclaimer: I don't own Muse or Saturday Night Live blah blah blah y'all get the point
Author's Note: This is horribly late and I'm so so so sorry to the prompter. I know what it's like to not have your prompt get written and I feel horrible for making someone wait this long. So I hope you enjoy this first little bit <3 (Also why the hell do I make like all my fic titles with Gaga lyrics?!?!)

“No, no, can’t do the radio show that night, I’ll be on Jimmy Fallon. Right. Yeah yeah, cheers Glenn.”

Dominic Howard ends his call with his manager and pushes his fringe out of his eyes, blinking quickly to get rid of the pesky remnants of sleep that stick to the corner where his lids meet. He’s just gotten off an eleven hour plane ride from LAX to Heathrow, and although it’s barely even time for lunch, it feels like it’s four in the morning.

He yawns, sipping his tea and signing onto Twitter. He doesn’t use it too often, but he figures it’s about time he should give the fans a little something after being completely silent since his new film hit cinemas almost a month ago.

“@Dominic_Howard: Spins a web, any size, catches thieves, just like flies!”

He laughs, sending the tweet off into cyberspace, preparing for the onslaught of replies. Having over a million twitter followers can be a bit annoying at times, but for the most part, he simply leans back and basks in the glory, because it’s not like he’s cocky or anything. It’s been a long three years for Dominic. He’s gone from small, independent acting jobs for tiny film and theater companies across the UK to a starring role as one of the world’s most renowned super heroes: Spider-Man. He’s front page of every gossip magazine on the shelf and makes close to £12 million every year.

Quite frankly, he’s allowed to be cocky.

Dominic shuts his laptop and stretches, groaning as another call from Glenn comes in.

“Yeah mate,” he says, standing up to walk around his flat, cherishing the soft carpet against his feet.

“NBC just contacted me,” Glenn says, sounding in a hurry. “They need a host for Saturday Night Live.”

“Okay, yeah, always wanted to do that,” Dominic replies, wondering why his manager sounds so stressed. “I’d love to.”

“This coming Saturday, Dominic.”

“Oh.” Dominic thinks to himself, doing a bit of maths in his head. “That’s... Four days away,” he says, a bit stunned.

“Right, George Clooney was supposed to host but an emergency came up. They need someone, like, now. They called me first, said they wanted to try you before anyone else.”

“Oh,” said Dominic, happily surprised. “That’s actually fantastic, yeah, I’m in.”

“Great! I’ll send the car back for you, will you be ready in a half hour? There’s a plane that leaves for JFK in two hours, so you’d be able to get there for the rehearsals today.”

“Yeah yeah, sure,” says Dominic, inwardly groaning at the thought of another long flight. But, seriously? Hosting Saturday Night Live? Talk about a fucking dream come true.

“Right, I’ll see you at Heathrow in an hour or so. Also, Dominic?”

“It’s the Valentine’s Day Special.”

New York City is buzzing as the car takes Dominic through the streets toward Rockefeller Plaza and Studio 8H. He’d tried to get some sleep on the plane, but instead spent it in conversation with the elderly American woman next to him who knew nothing of the difference between Spider-Man and Superman.

All on the streets shops are getting ready for the big day on Saturday. Pinks and reds catch the eye everywhere, and Dominic groans. It’s not that he hates Valentine’s Day it’s just that... Yeah, he hates Valentine’s Day. He knows for a fact the writers for Saturday Night Live are going to incorporate his single status at some point during the show, and just the thought makes him grumpy. Dominic doesn’t want a relationship; he wants to be unattached, maybe shag a model every now and then, and call it good.

Upon getting to the studio, Dominic sits down with the head-writer, Colin, to discuss the show.

“Thank you so much for getting here last minute,” says Colin. “We were in a frenzy, had no idea what to do!”

“Oh it’s not a problem,” Dominic chuckles nervously, wondering how in the world he’s going to get himself ready for this in four days.

“The cast have been working the last few hours to update the scripts and stuff. Now we originally planned on George Clooney being here, so we’re going to take out the Ocean’s Eleven sketch and replace it with a Spider-Man one.”

“And, you know since it’s the Valentine’s Day Special, we want to possibly incorporate a love interest for Peter Parker into the script.”

Not great.

“How does that sound?”

“Great,” Dominic says, noticeably less enthusiastically than last time. “Uh, can I ask about the monologue? I’m really nervous about that bit.” He’s really not, he just wants to change the subject away from love and all that mushy gushy shit.

“Ah, right, I forgot to tell you, your musical guest is wanting to do a little something in the monologue, said you two have some history together online or something like that?”

Dominic is curious, unsure what to expect. “Who is it?” he asks.

“Musician from your side of the pond, Matthew Bellamy. Surely your manager already told you?”

Dominic’s jaw drops because Matthew Bellamy. The two have yet to meet, but one could say they definitely do have an online history, an online history that has allowed Dominic to get off a few times. He’d discovered the London singer-songwriter a couple years back after hearing his first EP playing in a record shop in Camden Town. Matthew was unlike any singer Dominic had ever heard, and after a little search on the internet and a Twitter follow, he’d discovered he was also unlike any man Dominic had ever seen.

It’s not like Dominic has a type. Of course not. He knows who he is, he knows he’s not interested in forming relationships with any of the models he fucks in the back rooms of clubs. He knows what’s good for him, especially at this time in his life when every tabloid magazine is watching his every move. He knows that if he were to ever date someone, it would be absolute hell for the both of them. But for some reason, Dominic also knows he would drop all this reasoning if it meant he could be with Matthew Bellamy.

And their history is definitely more than meets the eye. Over the last two years, they’ve flirted on and off through Twitter, to the delight of (most of) their fans - the exception being the select few of Dominic’s fans who believe that the actor will marry them one day. Dominic can remember just about every reply they’ve sent each other on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, the whole lot. There’s always a bit of an innuendo in their teasing comments, a curiosity they’ve yet to really express outwardly.

There’s no other way to put it. Dominic fancies Matthew in a giddy, primary school crush way. Because grown men are totally allowed to have cute little crushes. Everyone is allowed to have cute little crushes.

“Hey,” says Colin, snapping his fingers in front of Dominic’s face. “You here with me?”

“Yeah yeah.” Dominic shakes his head, angry with himself for slipping into one of his weird as hell daydream things. “Just kind of drifted off there for a moment.”

“More like a minute, but yeah, let’s get started on your script.”

Dominic is at the studio until late that night, rehearsing his lines and meeting with the cast to discuss things. It’s all a bit frantic and stressful, especially since he’s lagged from his multiple flights in the previous 48 hours, but things go well, and he’s pretty sure he will be ready in time for Saturday night.

Just as he tucks into the crisp white sheets in his hotel bed, his mobile lights up with a notification from Twitter.

“@MattBellamy: excited to finally meet @Dominic_Howard this coming Saturday. going to be a fun night ;-)”

“Oh you bastard,” Dominic mumbles as he quickly unlocks his mobile and sends his reply.

“@Dominic_Howard: @MattBellamy a fun night for sure ;)"

I'm so glad you like this <3 Sorry for the late reply, the update is coming I PROMISE!! Writing an SNL monologue is really hard, I've been working on it for months and still can't get it right :'(
dolcedolce_piccante on April 24th, 2015 03:04 am (UTC)
omg don't even worry about it! take as long as you want. and don't tress about the monologue! if you want to write it, that's great, but don't stress about the technical aspects of snl. you write the story you want to write, don't worry about the prompt!
